About Bordeaux
Nicknamed 'Petit Paris' (Little Paris) by the French, Bordeaux is nestled in southwest France just 30 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. It is the most popular and largest wine region in the world with more than 7,500 wine producers making nearly 75 million cases of wine each year! Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007, Bordeaux, France's sixth largest city, is an international tourist destination with more than 400 historical monuments. All major sites are walkable but there are also trams strategically located throughout the city.
How to Get to Bordeaux
The best way to get from Paris to Bordeaux is a 2-hour high-speed TGV train departing from Paris Gare Montparnasse. Alternatively, you can take a flight from Charles de Gaulle or Orly airport to Bordeaux Merignac or drive from Paris.
By Airplane
The Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is the major airport in Bordeaux. A nonstop flight from Paris is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
By Train
Direct trains are between 2 and 3 hours, depending on your departure time. A one-way ticket costs roughly 30 euros ($33) if you purchase tickets in advance. Trains depart from the Paris Montparnasse train station and arrive at the Bordeaux St-Jean train station. You can purchase tickets no more than 6 months in advance on SNCF-Connect. If you plan to fly to Paris, we highly recommend that you arrive in Paris at least one day in advance if you choose this train option. In this way, you will not be in a rush to leave the airport to catch your train, especially if you experience travel delays.
By Car
The drive from Paris to Bordeaux is about 6.5 hours.
Accommodations
We will be staying in one of two French homes, that are close walks from the center of Bordeaux. There is also a tram less than a 5-minute walk from the homes for those who don't wish to walk to the center. Close by are shops, food markets and an assortment of restaurants and cafes offering fare from casual to fine dining.

French Home #1

French Home #2
Beautiful house in chic and quiet neighborhood located 10 minutes from the hyper-center of Bordeaux and shops.Fully equipped kitchen, spacious and very pleasant.
Cultural Activities
-Cathedral Saint-Andre, a UNESCO heritage site
-Numerous Museums, including the architectural gem, Cité du Vin
- Blind Tasting: 5 Bordeaux Natural Wine & Cheese / Chahrcuterie Tasting (1hr tour) The group will get an intensive introduction to the Bordeaux wines by playing the game "Le nez du vin": sniffing the wine aromas in a small bottle to guess the wine. You will learn about the history of winemaking and vineyards, the grape varieties in Bordeaux, how to read a label like a professional and more!
BONUS! Day Trip to St. Émilion (Oct. 6 at 1:30pm)
Saint-Émilion is located about 22 miles northwest of Bordeaux. This French village, whose history stretches back to 35,000 years ago, is like walking through a Disney fairytale movie with its cobble-stoned streets, artisans shops, quaint restaurants and cafés and vineyards galore. We will do a walking tour and wine tasting at one of the chateaus. You will also have time to eat lunch and explore the village on your own or do some shopping and WRITE in a local cafe!.
